Combines an antique Eastern Hemisphere map with a fragment of Lawren Harris' North Shore, Baffin Island I (1930) and George Clausen's The Maiden, hand-cut from Royal Academy Pictures and Sculpture (1911) and hand-colourized by the artist.
The story
The map is an antique one of the Eastern Hemisphere. The ice is from Lawren Harris's North Shore, Baffin Island I (1930), painted after the Arctic voyage he made that summer with A. Y. Jackson.
The woman is from George Clausen's The Maiden, cut by hand from the 1911 volume of Royal Academy Pictures and Sculpture and coloured by the artist. Clausen (1852–1944) was an English painter best known for scenes of country life.
